This is my first entry into the Konami Mobile’s Contra 4 Character Contest. It closed on 10/01/07. All entries required an art file and an (up to 1000 characters) description. I had four entries I wanted to finish, one very busy weekend to complete them, and I ended up finishing two.

Since the winning concept design is an unlockable character in the game, I had to ask myself what character/concept would bring the most satisfaction upon completion. I love gaming history and characters, and this idea brings together two Konami franchises… Rush’n Attack meet Contra, Contra this is Rush’n Attack.

I don’t think the “hero” ever had a name, but I gave him one anyway (and here goes my description):

Boris “Rush’n” Tank: Play through Contra IV to rescue this hostage, Boris “Rush’n” Tank, the soldier who always brings a knife to a shootout. For a hardcore challenge, players with Boris will have to slash their way through the game in close quarters. Is a knife and a forward roll not enough? To enable his victory, power-up blimps can give Boris his trademark bazooka or grenade (limit of three per blimp please!) These over-powered weapons are designed to give this new Contra a fighting chance during boss battles.

Captured, tortured, and then cryogenically frozen by early Red Falcon conspirators, Boris was the hero who had once saved the world from nuclear threat. His preservation gave him a strange vigor, and upon his thaw, he took a blood oath to defeat Red Falcon forever.

Moveset:
Jump + down: forward roll (under enemies’ standing fire)
Down down (in quick succession) to move to a lower platform
Attack: knife
Attack w/ power-up: super-powered, one-hit-boss killing, bazooka or grenade

Hadn't heard of this contest, but I'll be watching for the results, now.

And the mixing with Rush'n Attack (Russian Attack?) is brilliant. Just a knife? Hey, it worked fine in Rush'n Attack.

Thanks. I would be so stoked if this guy won... of course the game credit/resumé notch would be nice, but mostly to have contributed in a small way to a series I've always loved.

I won't get my hopes up. I'm sure there were tons of great entries, and I've already found a few around DA. It would be a huge surprise.
