This is my second entry into the Konami Mobile’s Contra 4 Character Contest. It closed on 10/01/07. All entries required an art file and an (up to 1000 characters) description. I had four entries I wanted to finish, one very busy weekend to complete them, and I ended up finishing two.

This one has a weird initial concept… a friend and I used to try to play through the original Contra with the NES Advantage controllers and the turbo turned all the way up to 11 on the Jump button. The rule was we couldn’t stop jumping. I also dig the Rolling Stones. Oh, and Probotectors is the German version of Contra… apparently they were afraid of the censors and turned all of the human sprites into robots.

I wanted a little bit more story since I’d been avoiding the bare chest and headband thing for my characters, and although this story is as paper-thin as any Spaghetti Western, this is my description:

Jack Flash: Jack Flash was used to the dirty work of Neo City. Steel wheels and hoverbikes were the substance, the black and blue summation of his life. That is until he met some girls, found his true love with one of them, and proposed to her.

However, nothing ever went for Jack Flash. He couldn’t get the girl and went into business. He lost a voodoo lounge to fire and a tattoo you station to a sticky fingered bossman. His third attempt became his first reciprocated love: a pet shop emporium, with the most diverse assortment of cyborg raptors an ornithologist could wish for.

Jack learned falconry, and was given a new reputation as a street keeper. His birds kept the bastard mutant dogs at bay, and the civilians loved him for it. Then the attack came, and to the terrorists of Red Falcon, the razing of Jack’s beggars banquet of a shop was merely collateral damage.

Jack found his armor from the charred wreckage of Probotector droids, and began the revenge trek with his last bird, Babylon.

Oh man, the psx-2 version of Contra was fucking hard. But I love somehow the music from Contra ....
Great pic by the way. It has great colors .... .

Thanks. Yeah, the Contras can be pretty brutal... have you played the new DS Contra IV? Thinking about picking it up myself (I'm happy for Wayforward b/c I loved Shantae for GBC).

No, I don't own a DS but my cousin does. I am glad and greatful to own the Wii. Last week I have played Super Mario Galaxy till the end but the ending sucks ! After playing with Mario you have to do the same shit again with Luigi .... That's annoying .

me too! I played through it too methodically, and then realized for the last 15 stars I'd be collecting 1500 purple coins... ugh. Amazing game other than that.

Yeah, there are some supid mistakes in the game like playing with Luigi and then meet the character again?
And what about Rosalina? Who the fuck wants to hear her stupid Luma-story in the kindergarten ?
But it's still a great game through ...
