Welcome to my DA gallery!
On January 26th I posted the final completed picture images for my Star Tours 2008 Calendar project. It was crazy how it heated up the pageviews during that week (over 30,000)!
Breaking with
Rebelscum and then hitting
BoingBoing,
The Disney Blog,
Topless Robot,
Popsucker,
Superpunch,
Neatorama, and others... I even had a visit from the
ElvisTrooper himself! A big thank you goes out to everyone who made it happen! It was a great fifteen minutes that had me hiding under the computer. With that said, I know that this interest is really a testament to the amazing and lasting legacies of Disney and Lucas, and the amazing artisans and craftspeople that helped realize those worlds.
All the work is unofficial, the calendar will never be for sale (it was a gift for my brother and my extended family), and so please don't inquire about prints. It just won't happen.
The project goals evolved over time: at first it was a fun way to recapture the Disney spirit following a Disneyland vacation, then it was given a length (12 images) so that I had a concrete goal. This length could be easily compiled into a calendar, and the rest fell into place. After the first couple of images, I began hiding them from my older brother, to whom this project is dedicated, and it was revealed to him on Christmas 2007. He loved it!
There are far many more mashup ideas than I had time to accomplish, and due to the interest, I'll definitely continue with them (but only sporadically). I do however think, and this work may show it, that there could be a lot more to the Disney-Star Wars merchandising than they have previously imagined. I would love to help out if this is the case.
Coming up next: I'll be lugging my portfolio around at the 2008 GDC in the career pavilion. So if you see me, say hello!
... and wish me luck...
Thanks again for your interest, and may the force be with you!
